Connor Named Head Coach at ASU
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State men's lacrosse progam announced that Casey Connor has been named as the Sun Devils' new head coach.
Connor is a 2001 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he was a team captain (2000) and a three-time All-American defenseman (1998-2000). While at Maryland, he was on the Dean’s List and the ACC Honor Roll.
His professional playing career included the NLL's Washington Power (2001-02), the MLL's Rattlers (2001-02), the MLL's Bayhawks (2003-08) and the LXM Pro tour (2011-13). In 2006, he was named the Unsung Hero for the Baltimore Bayhawks.
Casey Connor also brings a well-rounded coaching resume to the team. He has lacrosse coaching experience at many different levels, ages, and genders.
He was responsible for several conference player of the year honors in both women’s NCAA and boys high school. In 2012, he helped lead Calvert Hall (Md.) School to a national No. 1 high school ranking as well as championship appearances in three straight years.
Connor also guided the 2006 UMBC women’s lacrosse team to its first ever win over a ranked opponent and its first ever America East regular season title. Also, he led the Mt St. Mary’s team to their first conference title and two-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
During his recent stint with Calvert Hall, he was also integral in the development of several future NCAA All-American defensemen and MLL players. Since his move to the Phoenix area, Connor has been involved in the development of both boys and girls lacrosse at the youth, club and high school levels, as well as helping the ASU women’s lacrosse program prior to its inaugural season this past spring.
Connor was selected to be Arizona State's head coach after an extensive, nationwide recruiting process that yielded more than 30 qualified candidates, conducted by a search committee comprising representatives of all sectors of the ASU men’s lacrosse community: the Board of Directors, current team members, staff and alumni.
Jim Mirabito, an alumnus, assistant coach and member of the Board of Directors, led the search committee.
“Casey Connor impressed us with his commitment to excellence in lacrosse and education," Mirabito said. "We interviewed some great candidates for this position and Casey brings the experience and knowledge necessary for us to return to the final 4 year in and year out.”
“ASU men’s lacrosse has a strong history and rich tradition to build on," said Connor. "The commitment and support from the Board of Directors and the campus community is one of the reasons this team is primed year after year and I can’t wait to get started. I would like to thank Jim Mirabito and the entire search committee for their faith in my ability to lead this program. Forks Up!”
Connor replaces Ben Prepchuk, who stepped in as interim head coach after Todd MacRobbie stepped down during the 2018 season.
