Lawlor Named Coach at NAU
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona University men’s lacrosse team is excited to announce the hiring of Will Lawlor as the head coach for the 2018-2019 season.
Lawlor joins the Lumberjack family from the University of Arizona, where he was the offensive coordinator and faceoff coach during the 2017-2018 season.
Lawlor also worked as the head coach of the Desert Cats Club high school team, which is based in Tucson.
Lawlor served as the interim head coach for NCAA Division III Alvernia University in Reading, Pa., following its 2017 campaign. Prior to that he was the offensive coordinator and faceoff coach for Alvernia.
Before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, Lawlor was an assistant coach at Philadelphia area high schools Lower Merion and Pope John Paul II.
Coach Lawlor grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs and played at national powerhouse Radnor High School. From there he went on to play at Ohio Wesleyan University, which was ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division III during his freshman year.
Lawlor transferred back home to attend Division III Rosemont College, from which he graduated with a degree in Communications. Lawlor posted back-to-back stellar seasons before a knee injury cut his career short.
He was awarded the CSAC Sportsmanship Award in his final season of play and is the Rosemont record-holder for single game assists (7) and points (9). Lawlor continued to play post-collegiality in the competitive Philadelphia indoor league.
“I’m very honored to become NAU’s next head coach," Lawlor said. "NAU has a successful lacrosse history and I have very clear goals to get the Lumberjacks to the next level. I can’t wait to meet the team and get going.”
