CUI’s Schweickert Named Goalie of Week

CUI’s Schweickert Named Goalie of Week

April 9th, 2019 General News | Concordia | Purdue | Santa Clara

ATLANTA – After helping the Eagles stave off an upset attempt by UC Santa Barbara, Concordia-Irvine sophomore netminder Tyler Schweickert earned Pearl’s MCLA Division I Goalie of the Week honors for the period ending April 7.

With No. 9 Concordia-Irvine in the midst of a shootout against the unranked Gauchos – the Eagles trailed 9-6 at halftime – the Tustin, Calif., product limited UC Santa Barbara to just three goals in the final 30 minutes as Concordia-Irvine rallied for a 13-12 victory.

Schweickert finished the contest with a dozen stops.

"Schweickert has been the most consistent presence on our defensive end all season,” said Concordia-Irvine coach Jesse Foss. “In the UCSB game, Tyler was outstanding, including making several point-blank stops. He was a big reason why we only gave up three goals in the second half."

For his efforts in earning the Pearl’s Performance of the Week, Schweickert will receive a prize package from Guardian Pearl, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian Pearl is the proud partner of the MCLA.

Guardian Pearl Honor Roll

Spencer Kline, Jr. – Purdue
Kline stood tall in the Boilermaker net against archrival Indiana, turning away 21 shots in the 8-7 overtime win for Purdue (75.0 sv%).

Matt Lencioni, Jr. – Santa Clara
In a grinder against Stanford, Lencioni had his best game of year, turning away 15 Cardinal shots while also scooping up three ground balls.

Johnny Perlite, Sr. - Arizona State
The Sun Devils took care of divisional rival Grand Canyon, 19-5, thanks to a 13-save performance from Perlite (72.2 sv%).
