LSU Grabs First LSA Title
DALLAS – It had never made an appearance in the championship game before, but after LSU pulled its third straight upset, the Tigers are the 2019 Lone Star Alliance (LSA) Division I champion. LSU defeated Texas on Sunday, 13-9, on the campus of Southern Methodist for the title.
With the victory, LSU (7-7) earns an automatic bid to the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 6-11. This will be the Tigers’ first trip to nationals.
Texas (9-4) and LSU danced around each other for the first quarter, which resulted in a 2-2 stalemate. The Tigers put the game away in the second.
LSU posted an eight-goal onslaught against the Longhorns in the second stanza, giving the Tigers a 10-5 lead at the break that would really not be threatened.
The LSU defense buckled down in the second half, mostly do to the superb play of LSU sophomore goalie Rob Hinyub. Texas just couldn’t get anything going against the New Orleans product.
LSU will find out its seed tonight when the selection committee unveils the Division bracket, which will be posted on MCLA.us when it’s available.
