Northern Arizona Captures SLC-II
CARLSBAD, Calif. – With a stingy defensive effort, Northern Arizona has won the 2019 Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) Division II championship by defeating UC San Diego, 7-5, at La Costa Canyon High School on Sunday.
With the victory, Northern Arizona (9-2) qualifies for the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 6-11. This will be the Lumberjacks first appearance at nationals.
NAU spotted UC San Diego (7-4) the first two goals of the game and trailed 2-0 after the first 15 minutes. The ‘Jacks responded and tied the game at halftime.
Still tied at fives with under four minutes two play, Northern Arizona struck for a pair of quick goals that stunned the Tritons and was good enough for the 7-5 triumph.
The Lumberjacks will find out their seed tonight when the selection committee releases the Division II bracket. The information will be released on MCLA.us when available.
