PROVO, Utah – Fall ball quickly came to a close for the Brigham Young men’s lacrosse team as the Cougars gear up for a new season, this time with 18 games on the map.
The 2022 season begins in Idaho as the Cougs take to the road to face Boise State on Feb. 10, Washington State on Feb. 11 and Simon Fraser on Feb. 12.
Returning to Utah, BYU will scrimmage Adams State (RMAC) on Feb. 19 followed by perennial RMAC power (and former MCLA national champion) Westminster on Feb. 22 in Salt Lake City.
The Cougs will play eight games in March, beginning with a trip to the West Coast.
On March 10, BYU will play formerly top-ranked Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. This game will be followed by a matchup against Dominican on March 11 in San Francisco. To finish off the weekend, BYU will go head-to-head the next day against Santa Clara on the Broncos' home turf.
There will then be a quick stop at home as the Cougars host the newly added RMLC D-II program Utah on March 16, followed by SLC powerhouse Concordia-Irvine on March 19.
The Cougs will then hit the road once again, traveling to Boulder to face RMLC conference foes Colorado on March 24 and then the Rams of Colorado State on March 26 in CSU’s Canvas Stadium.
It’s back to Utah for the Cougs as they play at their cross-town rival Utah Valley on March 30. Following this game, there will be no fooling around on April 1 as the 2022 Lone Star Alliance favorite Texas A&M pays a visit to BYU.
The next stop will be cross-country as BYU spends the weekend in Virginia.
First up is Liberty on April 8 for the Flames' annual midnight contest. This will be followed by North Carolina State on April 9 and then a mid-day game on April 11 against the Hokies of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
Wrapping up the regular season and conference play on April 16, Texas will be in Provo to challenge the Cougars on their home turf.
The RMLC Tournament takes place on April 22-23 at BYU. Looking to make a splash this season, the Cougars have high hopes of securing a bid to the 2022 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance commencing May 9 in Round Rock, Texas.
Head coach Matt Schneck shared his anticipation for the upcoming season and what he expects from his promising team.
“We are looking forward to playing many of the best teams in the country this season," said Schneck. "The excitement level is high and these teams are ready to get back on the field and compete. There won't be any room to underestimate any of our opponents. They are all going to bring their best.”
BYU has big plans and is looking forward to taking on the new challenge this season presents. Working hard to prepare for a busy spring, the Cougars are preparing to pounce.
