FARGO, N.D. -- Dear players, parents, and colleagues,
Today, I stand before you as a proud coach who has had the privilege of coaching and shaping young lacrosse players for the last 15 years. As I reflect on my journey as a coach, I am filled with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment.
I am proud of the countless games we have won, the countless hours of hard work we have put in, and the countless memories we have created. More than the victories and the accolades, I am proud of the young men you have become.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from coaching lacrosse.
This decision was not an easy one to make, but it is time for me to step aside and let new coaches take the reins. I have the utmost confidence in Matt Melchior and the job he and his staff are going to do with this program. I can confidently say that the best is yet to come for NDSU lacrosse.
I want to thank each and every one of you for making my time as a coach so memorable. Your dedication, hard work and passion for the game have inspired me every day. I am grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunities to make a positive impact on your lives.
I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to the parents who have supported their children and the team through thick and thin. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in our success.
I want to thank my family for sharing me all these years. I know it wasn’t always easy but I can’t put into words how much it meant for letting me pursue this passion. Thank you.
And finally, I want to thank my colleagues and fellow coaches who have become friends and mentors over the years. Your support and encouragement have been invaluable.
Although I am retiring from coaching, my love for the game and for all of you will never fade. I will always cherish the memories we have shared and the lessons we have learned.
My goal when I took over at NDSU was to put this program in a better position than when I came on. I feel confident I accomplished this goal.
Thank you for the privilege of being your coach. I will miss you all.
Roll Herd!
