LYNCHBURG, Va. – The first round of the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Division I tournament kicks off this weekend with a pair of home-site games, leading to the culmination of both divisional tournaments at Lynchburg City Stadium on April 30.
The winner of each tournament will receive an automatic berth in the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will be held at the Round Rock (Texas) Multipurpose Complex from May 8-13.
The opening first round game occurs this Saturday, April 22, with South subdivisional action. No. 2 seed Tennessee entertains No. 3 seed NC State in Knoxville. The two teams met on March 31 with the Volunteers taking the 13-9 home victory thanks to a goal and two assists from both Jack Sullivan and Michael Ricciardi.
The winner of that contest will face North top seed Liberty on April 29 at 3 p.m., in Lynchburg.
On Sunday, the North swings into action as No. 2 West Virginia hosts No. 3 Temple in Morgantown. The Mountaineers edged the Owls, 11-10, on March 31 in Philly thanks to a hat trick from Jackson Smith.
The victor earns a date with South No. 1 Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m. on April 29.
