Brown, Wheeler Named Player of Month
ATLANTA – After posting fantastic performances in the month of March, Cal State San Marcos junior middie Kobe Brown and Georgia freshman attackman Sam Wheeler are the 101 Lacrosse Players of the Month.
In a trio of games, Wheeler was superb. The Dallas, Texas product had seven goals and five assists as the Bulldogs went 3-0, including a win over a Top 5 Florida State outfit.
So far this spring, Wheeler has 39 goals and 21 assists for 60 points for the Bulldogs, who are 11-1.
“Sam has been a staple of our offense since the beginning of fall ball,” said Georgia coach Holin Axley. “He’s does a great job quarterbacking our offense and limiting turnovers in the process. You would never know he’s a freshman by watching him play.
“He’s a firecracker on the field and gets the guys going with his high-energy play and competitive attitude. We know we’re going to get Sam’s best every game and that he’s going to demand everyone else’s best in the process. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the spring and the next three years holds for Sam.”
In five games this March, Brown put on a show for the second-ranked Cougars. The Escondido, Calif., product amassed 11 goals and 17 assists in a 5-0 month while also chipping in with 38 ground balls and defensive responsibilities.
Brown has 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points this season, along with 64 ground balls for the 8-1 Cougars.
“Without question, Kobe Brown is the heart and soul of this team,” said Cal State San Marcos coach Wyatt Ehrhardt. “He has the leadership to influence his brothers to rise to a higher level of play.
“His abilities on the field and instincts for the ball are uncanny. I believe he is a generational talent and a true blessing to coach.”
The winners of the MCLA Player of the Month will receive a custom award plaque compliments of 101 Lacrosse.
