Kennesaw Goes Back-to-Back in SELC-II
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a late 4-0 run that provided the first lead of the game, Kennesaw State won a nailbiter against Florida Gulf Coast in the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division II Championships at the Bolles School on Saturday morning.
With the victory, the Owls (10-3) earns an automatic berth to the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will be held from May 8-13 at the Round Rock (Texas) Multipurpose Complex.
Florida Gulf Coast (10-1), which suffered its first defeat of the season, will now be added to the at-large pool for the MCLA tournament field, which will be released on Sunday, April 30.
The Eagles raced out to a 3-1 lead to start the game, but Kennesaw managed to rally to knot the score at three heading into the second period.
FGCU countered again to build a 7-4 edge midway through the third quarter, but the Eagles didn’t score again.
Kennesaw cut the lead to 7-5 after three and piled on two more to tie the game early in the fourth. Then, with 7:34 left in the game, the Owls connected for the game-winner that stood up through three golden opportunities from FGCU to tie the game.
