UST’s Loberg Earns Warrior Honor
ATLANTA – After sparking St. Thomas to a pair of Top 10 victories over the weekend, Tommies senior faceoff specialist Cam Loberg has been named the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 25.
Third-ranked St. Thomas opened the two-game set in Minot, N.D., against No. 8 Montana and thanks to a perfect game from the Rosemount, Minn., product – winning all seven of his draws – the Tommies were able to take the 9-5 decision.
On Sunday, UST ran into red-hot and No. 4-ranked Montana State and again Loberg came up with the clutch faceoff wins. He won 7-of-11 draws as the Tommies pulled out the 13-12 overtime triumph. He also chipped in with a pivotal assist against the Bobcats.
For the weekend, Loberg finished with a 77.7 winning percentage along with a helper and seven ground balls.
“Loberg is often the heartbeat of this team and is always leading by example,” said St. Thomas coach Jason King. “Leaning on his military background, he is one of the most competitive and smart players I have had the pleasure to coach.
“His relentless effort this past weekend allotted us extra possessions when we needed them most.”
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Loberg will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
Warrior Honor Roll
Reese Austin, Sr. – William & Mary
The Pittsburgh native was the difference in a pair of one-goal victories for the Tribe, amassing 10 goals, two assists and nine ground balls on the weekend.
Nick DiBitetto, Jr. – Florida Atlantic
The Parkland, Fla., product was dominant at the dot in the Owls win over UNC-Wilmington, winning 14-of-15 draws (93.3%) in a 9-5 triumph.
Hunter Dietrich, Fr. – San Jose State
The San Ramon, Calif., product was all over the place for the Spartans against Southern Oregon, finishing 16-of-18 on faceoffs with a trick, an assist and 10 GBs.
Seth Franks, Soph. – Utah State
In the opening weekend for the Aggies, the Syracuse, Utah, product went a combined 33-of-41 (80.5%) at the faceoff dot with 11 GBs and a goal.
Ethan Haas, Sr. – Wake Forest
The middie from Darien, Conn., had a complete game in the win over Virginia Tech D-II with a hat trick, two assists and a pair of ground balls.
Zion Nevares, Fr. – Southern Conn. State
The rookie attackman from Bridgeport, Conn., buried a pair of goals and set up four others in the Owls 7-6 victory over Westfield State.
Tyler Nichols, Jr. – UNC-Charlotte
In a narrow win over No. 20 Coastal Carolina, the Mooresville, N.C., product notched a hat trick along with a pair of helpers for the 49ers.
Jonathan Serrell, Jr. – Montana State
In a split weekend in Minot, the Draper, Utah, native amassed 10 goals, two assists and 14 ground balls for the fourth-ranked Bobcats.
Evan Suh, Fr. – Kennesaw State
The rookie attackman from Suwanee factored in half of the goals in the Owls 22-14 win over divisional rival Georgia Southern. He finished with five goals and six assists.
