Tempe, Ariz. — Arizona State Men’s Lacrosse is proud to announce the hiring of Dave O’Neil as its new head coach. An Arizona State alumnus and standout player from 2005 to 2009, O’Neil brings nearly two decades of coaching experience and a proven record of success at the high school and national club level.

O’Neil most recently served as a varsity assistant coach at Torrey Pines High School, a national powerhouse in Southern California. During his tenure, the program claimed seven CIF Open Division Championships and produced over 75 NCAA commits, including 52 at the Division I level. He also held head coaching roles with the West Coast Starz, RC Starz and the Nike National All-Star Games, where his 2024 and 2027 teams both captured national titles.

"This is a full-circle moment," said O’Neil. "ASU gave me four unforgettable years as a player, and I’m honored to return as head coach. I’m eager to build a championship-caliber culture that represents the grit, pride, and talent of Sun Devil lacrosse."

O’Neil earned his Bachelor of Science in justice studies from Arizona State and was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Known for his relentless work ethic and leadership as a player, he now brings those same qualities back to Tempe.

Nick Hillier, president of the Sun Devils Lacrosse Advisory Board, expressed his enthusiasm:

"Bringing Dave back to Tempe is more than just hiring a coach, it’s bringing home a leader who understands the program’s legacy and its untapped potential. His track record developing elite athletes and building winning teams speaks for itself."

KJ Davis, president of the player board, added:

"Coach O’Neil is someone we’re ready to rally behind. His energy is contagious, and he’s already showing us what it means to be relentless. We can’t wait to get to work."

With a national recruiting network, deep coaching roots and a passion for ASU, O’Neil is poised to elevate the Sun Devils to new heights.
